A mid-century home, encapsulating the distinct traits of its era is reinvigorated with a timeless renovation inside and out
CHIFLEY HOME Renovation & EXTENSION
Nestled within a cul-de-sac, owners of a home architecturally designed in the 60s sought a new life for its wearing structure. As admirers of mid-century design, they engaged VDARA to encapsulate the distinct traits of the era within a complete renovation and home extension. Working with the client, we established aspects of the home to retain and determined what could be modernised in its transformation.
Inside what was once a neglected workshop is now a functional, spacious kitchen and living room for the owners and their guests to enjoy. Boasting timber veneer cabinetry from floor to ceiling, the kitchen perfectly pairs the old with the new with refreshing white walls and Caesarstone countertop.
Moving into the open dining and living room, the floors were treated to engineered timber, perfectly complementing the light-filled space and selection of mid-century furniture. Featuring timber ceiling fans, each room effortlessly connects with the next creating a cohesive interior style.
Within the living room, exposed blue brick is stacked behind a showcased fireplace and surrounded by a combination of textured materials to complete the space.
Looking outside, the owners are spoilt with sweeping views of Canberra’s stunning landscape. Originally hidden behind overgrown trees, the home did not take advantage of the remarkable sights which can now be admired from the living space inside or the outside deck.
Echoing the turn of the century and traits of the home, the master bedroom features a lined wall of wooden cladding. Inside the ensuite and bathroom, a mix of charcoal and white tiling is paired with a timber vanity, creating the perfect combination of light and dark.
Beyond the home, a functional new carport was added, and the landscaping was transformed to reflect the refined interior. From what was once a rundown house is now a standout cul-de-sac home, boasting timeless design and functional elegance.
