A classic late 60s home finds modern solutions in a stunning renovation
MACQUARIE HOME Extension and Renovation
A classic late 1960s home, including renovations from the 1980s, stood on a spacious block in the suburb of Macquarie. A practical young family wanted a space for their children to grow into. They saw an opportunity to maximise the generous space available and transform a house into their perfect family home.
The clients' brief was simple – extend the length of the home and gain maximum exposure to the northern aspect of the block. A family who loves entertaining and cooking wanted to create a space where they could unwind together. With a complete demolition to the original extension, we were able to build the space this family wanted.
The open-plan extension connected each room with beautiful spotted gum hardwood flooring. Styled using a mixture of natural and modern materials, the perfect contrast of dark and light, softened the interior, creating a strong sense of homeliness. Adding a stunning fireplace with a black tile surround brought the loungeroom together, creating a centre-point for the family to spend time. Utilising pieces of the spotted gum, the fireplace mantle became the perfect complement to the space.
Functional solutions including a reconfigured laundry, walk-in-pantry and a multi-purpose office meant the family could operate how they like. With no desire to compromise on space, a custom made wall bed was added to the new office for when a guest room was required.
Outside, the extension flowed into a covered alfresco area featuring beautiful finishes including Merbau timber. Framed by a sandstone retaining wall, neutral tones were used across the alfresco maximising the sense of space in the backyard.
The Macquarie house, now a functional, purposeful home was the perfect outcome for a family eager to grow into a place of their own.
