An early 1970s abode transformed into a modern, extended home in one of Canberra’s most vibrant suburbs
MACquarie Renovation & EXTENSION
Located amidst the picturesque landscape of Macquarie, a growing family approached VDARA to modernise their early 70s abode. The owners wanted to transform their multiple individual rooms on the upper floor into one large living space with defined areas for the family to have a perfect large and functional space.
Bringing in the essence of true Australian nature into the home, this home has been refurbished with solid Australian hardwood spotted gum flooring throughout. The variance in its tone gives a sense of warmth and brings the outside indoors; making the light-filled space unique and just so welcoming.
The kitchen has been designed with utmost practicality in mind to offer a tranquil environment for the family to gather and relish their cooking experience. The owners are spoilt with plenty of large cupboard spaces, pull-out drawers and cookbook shelves, so they never have to worry about constricted space. The simple yet stylish splashback stands out and complements the kitchen space.
The use of classic black and white colours on the outside ties in well together and makes this space aesthetically pleasing.
The dining area is perfectly positioned next to the balcony so the family can enjoy the beautiful outdoor views and breeze while they gather to eat. Adjacent to the kitchen is the charming living space that offers a magnificent view of hills while the family relaxes and enjoys together.
With the prominent use of European style, uPVC tilt and turn windows throughout the home, the owners are offered a vibrant scenic visual surrounding the suburb.
The bathroom features a classic white finish with geometric tiles on one of the walls to spruce up the space and add a lively touch to it. The bathroom looks sleek with charcoal black slab tile flooring and stainless steel fixtures and fittings.
The walk-in robe connecting the bathroom is a clever addition to the space.
The bedrooms have been treated with soft-toned carpets to balance the neutral walls, and it certainly pairs well with the modern-day setting.
Stretching out-of-doors and forming part of an extension is the beautiful nut-brown, Silvertop Ash deck that enriches the natural beauty of the outdoor space and offers a relaxed atmosphere with a cottage charm for the family to sit and relax during the day.
Extensive groundwork was conducted including excavation and steel works to create space in the backyard underneath the extended deck. The overall roof has been renovated with tiles to complement the classic earthy colour palettes used throughout this lovely residence.
